About Us
Blackstock Co-op Nursery School (BCNS) is a licensed, non-profit organization that has been committed to providing a nurturing and positive learning experience for children in Blackstock, Ontario and surrounding communities for over 47 years.
Licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Education, BCNS operates within Blackstock Recreation Centre from September through June each year.
Our school offers both a Toddler Program for children ages 18-months to three years old and a Junior Kindergarten Readiness Program for children ages three to five years old, who will entering into kindergarten the following September.
Our programs are for all children regardless of ability, language, race, culture, ethnicity or family structure. Staff work with families to support all children in the programs.
Play-based programs introduce children to a variety of learning experiences, enabling them to develop socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically.
At Blackstock Co-op Nursery School...
We play.
We have fun not only by playing with toys, but through “Invitations to Play.” This includes a variety of individual and themed items that encourage your child’s natural imagination.
We create.
We make art, build, read, grow plants from seeds, perform plays for each other and sing out loud. And yes, at some point during the day, our hands are usually covered in paint, glue and/or glitter.
We explore.
We engage in sensory play and explore the wonder that is science through age-appropriate experiments. We go outside, take walks around the neighbourhood as well as visit farms, fields and forests.
We build community.
For over 47 years now, we have served and supported each other and our local Blackstock community.
We bring together a variety of families who:
Understand that children learn best through play.
Believe that parental involvement is integral to a child’s educational success.
Desire an opportunity to be directly involved with their child’s early education.
